{chit chat} 5 Things About Me...

My sweet blog friends Cynthia and Christy both tagged me in sharing five things about myself.  Nothing like a prompt to combat the writer's block!  Here are a few little known facts about me:

1. I met my husband on the Internet.  I KNOW.  Almost eight years of marriage and I still get red in the face when I talk about it.  My parents had just moved to a new area, I was transferring home from FUS, and I thought it would be a fun thing to do since I didn't know anyone.  I had absolutely no intention of actually meeting anyone, but well...we all know how that turned out!  God works in funny ways.

2. I love to bake.  I can make a mean chocolate chip cookie, but I like to dabble in all things sweet.  I once made a blueberry cheesecake for my dad, to which he asked, " This is this from the store?"  If you know my dad, you know this is the highest form of flattery. :)

3. I am a dance school dropout.  My mom started me when I was in kindergarten maybe? and I lasted only a few classes before I was totally over it.  This probably explains why I have no rhythm and my dad calls me Elaine.

4. My favorite ice cream is mint chocolate chip...preferably the green kind.

5. I dream of having a library in my home someday.  Beauty and the Beast was my favorite Disney movie growing up...I mean, the rolling ladder to get the books way up high?  How cool is that?!

{inspire me} Volume Two

In the market for a new pillow to add a little color to your space?  I am loving the pillows over at Paisley Sprouts.  This rainbow one is really fun and I love the stripes (and back!) of this one.  She also has a black and white version!

Two weeks until my big flying adventure with my girl and I am starting to get anxious.  Okay, SUPER anxious.  Natalie's pep talk couldn't have come at a better time...I'm going to read it over and over again!

These salt dough egg ornaments are an easy craft to do with the kids, but I think they would be darling for so many other things.  Can you picture them tied to cloth napkins on an Easter dinner table?  What about as a decorative accent attached to a present?

Best Practices of Blogging was a common sense, but needed post for me this week.  My favorite reminder: "You’re drawn to blogging because you have something to share. Don’t get caught up in looking or sounding like someone else’s blog—remember that your voice and your point of view are what make your blog unique and interesting."

I found Becky via Instagram.  She is a Mamma to four and is passionate about health.  Her feed is so inspirational!  She just started a blog and I'm dying to make her latest recipe: Moist Pumpkin Protein Muffins.

I like to give books as part of birthday gifts and Z Is for Moose (which I learned about from Design Mom) sounds like a great choice.  Anxious to read this one with my boys!

{recording life} Currently...

time : 2:30 PM
drinking : my second green smoothie of the day...gotta get those veggies in!
watching : my sweet girl take her afternoon nap as the big boys watch Alvin and the Chipmunks
reading : For Whom the Bell Tolls, although I haven't picked it up in about a week.  I need to make some time for that.
feeling : strong.  I started my third week of Insanity today.  So hard, but so rewarding for a competitive girl like me.
creating : fun Penpal packages for the first few ladies on the list.  I have had so much fun picking out just the right gift.
thinking : about how the sudden 60-degree weather has stirred lots of ideas for our outside space.  A vegetable garden, picnic table and flowers are all on the to-do list this spring.
hoping : my Little Miss will sleep soundly tonight.  She's been restless the past few nights, for no good reason.  Can she possibly be teething already?!
needing :  ideas for what to write about on the blog.  After the 30 Days on Pinspiration series, I seem to have hit a wall!  Hoping for inspiration to strike soon.  Please share if you have any ideas for me!

{share the love} Must-Read Blogs

I love blogs and I read a LOT of them.  But too often, I quickly read and then dash off to the next one without taking the time to comment.  Do you do this too?  It's a habit I'm trying to change because I know for me, a comment can just make my entire day!  It's an easy way to encourage each other and maybe make some friends in the process.

So today, I thought I would share with you a few blogs that I have on my blogroll.  These are great girls with lots to share and I have learned so much!  So without further ado, let me introduce you to some great blogs...

I discovered Megan's blog back in January when I started working out and used her free printables.  I've been hooked ever since!  She is the Mamma of two with one on the way. I love when she posts pictures of her gorgeous home and am especially loving the progress in her daughter's big girl room...taking notes for our Little Miss in a few years!  :)

I just recently found Ashley's blog, Coffee Happens.  She is the wife of a medical student and the Mamma to one sweet pea.  I have loved reading through her archives, especially all of her foodie posts.  I mean, look at this sourdough bread!  Amazing!

Ever stumble on a blog that was brimming with inspiration?  This one is amazing!  In Katie's words, "The Childhood List is all about documenting the big and little events that make childhood one of the best, most important and most memorable times in our lives!"  She has an adorable etsy shop too!

Be sure to check them out and say hello!  And bonus challenge if you're up for it: when reading through your blogroll today, pick a few and leave a comment.  You have no idea the joy you may bring!

{friendship} The Penpal Project: An Update

Hi friends!  First of all, I want to thank everyone who signed up for the Penpal Project!  I was blown away by the response and cannot wait to send you a little something to brighten your day!  I am already hard at work brainstorming ideas to send the first few ladies.

I just wanted to point out for all of you who read blogs in a reader that I added a link to the post/sign-up form over on the sidebar.  The project will stay open indefinitely, so feel free to join in at any time!

P.S. If you feel so inclined, spread the word!  I know there are so many lonely, isolated and overwhelmed Mammas out there who could use a little support.  We're in this together!

{chit chat} If You Came Over for Coffee...

It's been awhile since we've caught up!  If you lived nearby, I'd invite you over for coffee,  but I have tea if you like that better.  My kids would be excited for visitors and they'd want to show you everything: their latest Lego creation, their rooms, even the crazy spin move they've made up.  We won't be able to get a word in, so I'll pop some popcorn and declare it "Movie Time" so they'll quiet down. The latest favorite around here is Alvin and the Chipmunks.

We'll sit down at my dining room table with a baby on my lap...or on yours if you want to hold her.  She's awful smiley lately; maybe she'll coo for you too.  I'll have a plate of homemade chocolate chip cookies on the table because you're special.  Feel free to eat two or're in good company. :)

I'll tell you all about my crazy home improvement ideas and my decorating ADD.  I can't seem to stay in any one room for long.  I'll quickly bring you into the laundry room and show you the progress.  I've got big plans including installing new cabinetry and tiling the floor.  I've also got plans for the living room, so you'll hear all about that too.

The doorbell will ring and my latest monthly bundles from Honest Company will be on the step.  Oh, how I love this service!  I'll open up the boxes to show you all the products.  We get both the diaper and the cleaning product bundles.  So far, I've been pleased with everything but the dishwasher gel (it didn't get my pots and pans as clean as I would like).  The diapers are adorable, we have had minimal leaks (HUGE!) and I'm happy to find a natural option that's pretty affordable.

We'll talk about plans for the month of March.  I'm hoping to cross a few items off of my 30 Before 30 list.  I'm thinking a trip to the library is finally in order and I really want to plant a succulent for the living room.  I'll also tell you about my upcoming trip to Maine, just me and my Little Miss.  I'm nervous about flying alone, but the excitement far outweighs the fear.  2013 is the year to take risks, conquer fear and make things happen.  That's what I keep telling myself anyway!

Then I'll realize I'm rambling and haven't heard from you!  So tell me, how are YOU?  What's new in your world?

{intention 2013} March's Goals

March will be about...
  • GROWING IN FAITH.  Trying to stay on track in my daily Bible/Catechism reading.  Re-learning the why's for what we believe.
  • QUIET.  No TV and less Internet.  Knowing when to shut off the media devices.  Embracing the quiet in hopes of more prayer time and inspiration.
  • ENCOURAGEMENT.  So excited to serve other Mammas in the Penpal Project. (P.S. Have you signed up yet?  I'd love to send you something!)
