{etsy finds} Saying Thanks...

How was your Christmas, friends?  Mine was simply wonderful.  The boys were so fun to watch and lots of fun memories were made.  It was perfect.  Now I am slowly returning to normal life and my to-lists are growing!  One of the top things on my list: thank-you cards.  I have so many that I am going to try to use up my stash this year, but check out some of these beauties I found while perusing etsy:

I love these chevron cards from Sarah Pederson Design.
Set of 6 for $16

Have someone extra special that deserves a card all their own?  This letterpress card from missive is gorgeous and will be treasured.

Aren't these mitten cards adorable?  They were created by Delightfully Noted.
Set of 12 for $18

I am seriously considering these for my kiddos.  Aren't they so sweet?  Perfect cards to send to the grandparents!  Made by Mika Art.
Set of 4 for $4.99

I might not be back in this space until next week, but be sure to check back.  2012 is going to be a big year for the Big White Farmhouse and I'll have lots to share!

{in the kitchen} Reindeer Cupcakes

I surprised the boys right before bedtime last night with a little cupcake decorating party.  Their excitement was contagious.  I truly believe that if you're stressed this Christmas season, you need only to stop and experience something through the eyes of your children.  It's amazing how simple they make things.

So on that note, blogging will be taking a back seat so I can fully experience the last few days of Advent with my sweet boys.  I want to thank all of you readers for coming back time and again to my humble little blog.  Your comments truly make my day (seriously...I excitedly tell my husband at dinnertime about every single one!).  What a blessing to meet and connect with girlfriends who have similar interests.

Here's wishing you a wonderful and relaxing Christmas holiday with the ones you love!

{christmas} Pinterest Overload?

I love Pinterest.  Really I do.  But sometimes I have to take a step back from the never-ending list of beautiful images before envy rears its ugly head.  Because my reality right now looks nothing like the stylized beauty that fills my screen.  There are toys scattered on the floor.  A carefully constructed block tower that has been long abandoned for other things.  A funky half-decorated tree (because we have a 1-year-old who likes to break things).

My dining room has become gift wrapping central, where I try to get a little bit done everytime I can steal away for a few seconds.  Of course, that really is a nice way of saying that my dining room is a huge mess!

So yeah.  My house isn't the picture perfect scene that splashes the front pages of Pinterest, but it's ours and it's good

{chit chat} A Post You Really Must Read

My husband took the day off, so we're taking the day to run an errand or two and enjoy our time with Daddy!  I wanted to just pop in quickly, though, to share a blog post I found last night that really resonated with me.  I was nodding my head throughout the entire thing.  For the most part, I think I succeeded in creating "a Christmas of yes" this season.  You really must read it.  You can find it here.

{christmas} A Link List

Happy Friday!  Christmas inspiration is all around the blog world this week, so I thought I would share some links:
  • Anna from In Honor Of Design made a link-up of packaging ideas.  So much inspiration there!
  • Britt over at Gus+Lula talked about traditions with her new babies (who are adorable, by the way!)  I loved her jingle: "Bring some joy, Give a toy, Show our thanks, Share our banks". I plan on incorporating that more in our Advent next year.
  • Kirsten at 6th Street Design School came up with an adorable gift for her neighbors.  She used fabric yardage, but I think a tea towel would be just as festive!
  • Looking for a recipe for homemade gingerbread men?  Stephanie from barefoot in the kitchen has a yummy looking one that I am dying to try.
  • Jennifer at JCasa shared a really easy craft to do with the kiddos using washi tape.  I love the cute would it be framed for the holidays?
Hope you have a wonderful (and non-stressful) weekend!  9 days until Christmas!

{christmas} Gift Ideas for the Men Folk

I don't know about you, but the (adult) males in my life are the hardest to shop for.  Tools?  Technology?  Sports?  So tricky!  Here are a few ideas I've found online...and bonus!  You still have time to order in time for Christmas!

For the techie...
This Charcoal Grey Laptop Sleeve is a great idea for the stylish techie guy in your life.  C&B also has a cell phone case in the same fabric.

For the cook...
If your man likes the kitchen or is interested in learning, this is a great gift.  How to Cook Everything has great reviews.  Another wonderful book I recently bought for my husband (an anniversary present) is Ruhlman's Twenty: 20 Techniques, 100 Recipes, A Cook's Manifesto.  The French Onion Soup is awesome!

For the coffee addict...
My husband is crazy about coffee.  And according to him, the best tasting coffee comes from a French press.  This gorgeous pot from Bodum holds 8-cups.  I would add in a bag of his favorite coffee (Mark's pick is Starbucks' Christmas blend!)

What are you getting for the men in your life this year?  Find anything special?  Please share in the comments, I know a lot of us would love the ideas and inspiration.
P.S.  I heard from this girl that tomorrow, December 16th, is known as "Free Shipping Day" for lots of online stores.  Great news for all you last-minute shoppers!  You can check out all of the participating stores here.

{reminder} Try Again

This is so true for Mamma's, don't you think?  I've had a tough week so far.  A sick baby who has decided tantrums are the way to go (hello, 1-years-old!) and two big boys who think sleeping is unnecessary (hello, 5am wakeup calls!) have created one zombie-like Mamma.  I have lost my patience.  My dinners have been less than stellar.  And all of those grand plans for reading around the Christmas tree and days filled with cooking and crafts?  Um, hasn't happened this week!

Weeks like these leave me with two choices: wallow in my failure as a mother or vow to do better tomorrow.  And while I'll admit it is not easy, I'm doing my best to do the latter.

Back to more fun gift ideas tomorrow!

{christmas} Family Gifts from C&B

Christmas gifts can quickly become pricey, especially if there are lots of people to buy for.  One option is to forgo the individual gifts and do a family gift instead.  Here are a couple of ideas I found through Crate & Barrel:

"The Cookie Kit"
Cookie Jar: 24.95  Cookie Mix: 5.95
You can make this as simple or complex as you like.  Fun additions could be: cookie cutters, colorful spatulas, sprinkles or frosting.

"Movie Lovers Kit"
Fun additions: a popcorn bowl, boxes of candy, and a favorite movie.

{christmas} Gift Ideas Under $20

Christmas is just 13 days away!  Are you done your shopping yet?  Need a few ideas?  All this week on the Big White Farmhouse, I'll be showcasing great last minute gifts for everyone left on your list!  Today is all about affordable options, $20 or less.

This towel is made in Japan, but there are many different options for kitchen towels out there.  Perfect for the baker or cook, I would add a wooden spoon and my favorite Christmas recipe.

This is a really good idea for gifts you'd like to do in multiples (girlfriends, teachers, etc).  Take one of the soaps and wrap together with a dish cute.  And you'll be able to keep one of the soaps for yourself :)

A cute little gift for coworkers or teachers.  Also makes a nice stocking stuffer!

{home} Master Bedroom Revealed!

If you've been reading this blog from the beginning, you know that I have had a master bedroom makeover in the works for a while now.  I've made inspiration boards, worked on two different projects for the gallery wall...I even made it an official "to do" on my 27th Year List.

So when my cousin decided to fly down to celebrate baby J's birthday this past weekend, I knew the timing was right.  We had amazing luck at Homegoods and Lowes, finding great pieces at really great prices!  And in 48 hours, we were able to transform my room from blah to a cozy retreat with no toys allowed!

The before (taken last spring I think?  Pardon the general clutter and baby makes the after shot look that much better):

And the afters:

I love this little corner of the room because it holds items that are dear to us.  The rocking chair came from my husband's childhood home and the quilt is one that was made for us by my grandmother.  So much family history in that little spot.

The only project left to do is to install the gallery wall on the left wall (you can see the frames on the floor in the picture above), which I hope to accomplish this weekend, so check back to see the results.  :)

{deals} Christmas Ideas with One Kings Lane

I was just browsing over at One Kings Lane and thought I would share a few great items I found.  These are all great ideas for Christmas gifts too!

Having overnight guests this Christmas?  This little carafe would look so nice on the nightstand in the guestroom.

Great gift for a girlfriend, teacher or a coffee lover!  Add a Starbucks gift card inside, tie ribbon around the mug, and you are ready to give!

This is a really nice gift for the girl who loves the gym or yoga!  Stylish and functional.
Have any new babies on your list?  Both of these options are so unique and beautiful.

These are just a few of the things I found.  You must take a peek!  So many interesting finds!  Shop here.

{reminder} Big Dreams

Among the Christmas tree trimming and birthday party preparations, I've been playing around with a few crazy ideas in my head. The thoughts both terrify and excite me, so I'm praying with extra fervor for God's direction.  We'll see!
